Education

Center for Systems Microbiology is involved in the education of students in Biotechnology at all levels from bachelor entry level to the post graduate level. Our focus is expecially on the Biotechnology master program in Medical Microbiology and the Biotechnology bachelor education. In the latter, CMB hosts the study-leader position and offers an apprentice-based educational platform for training of especially motivated bachelor students. Of high priority is also our Ph.D. courses. Based upon our scientific platform in general and medical microbiology, molecular biology, and systems biology, CSM deliver science-based teaching in a wide array of courses and experimental projects:

Experimental student projects

Scientific experimental projects, supervised by professors and our scientific staff, are offered as elective courses to enthusiastic students at all levels, and as bachelor or master projects. Projects in the scientific frontiers of CSM have to be requested in person from the individual researchers. By clicking here, a number of representative student projects can be accessed.

PhD courses

An advanced course in Medical biofilm techniques (27820) is offered annually, ten days in august. The overall objective for the course is to give the students a knowledge of the state of the art techniques in biofilm research. The participants will also have obtained knowledge about the general physiology of biofilm growing bacteria and special problems pertaining to treatment of patients infected with bacteria growing as a biofilm.

Master courses in Medical Microbiology and Biotechnology

The CSM portfolium of master courses is based upon our research platform, and focusses on medical microbiology, recombinant DNA techniques, and molecular mechanisms in gene regulation. The courses are listed here: Molecular Medical Microbiology (27253), General Medical Microbiology (27258), Molecular Biotechnology (27256), Global regulatory networks in microorganisms (27725), Experimental Molecular Biology of Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes (27232), and Molecular genetics of industrial bacteria (27233). An overview over the courses can be accessed by clicking here.

Bachelor courses and optimization of the bachelor education in Biotechnology

The dedication of CSM to coach new bachelor students into confident and efficient students is evident from the workload used on administration and optimization of the bachelor program by the bachelor study leader hosted by CSM, as well as the teaching of courses throughout the three bachelor years. The group is furthermore hosting a bachelor apprentice program for the most dedicated students. The bachelor courses, which are all taught in Danish (as required by DTU) are listed here: Bioscience (27002), Design of Bio- and Environmental processes (27006), Biotechnological project (27010), and Molecular Microbiology (27025). An overview over the courses can be be accessed by clicking here.
